Premier League - Tottenham announce Friedel deal

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel has agreed to join the club on a free transfer.

Friedel, 40, was out of contract at Villa Park and has turned down reported interest from his former club Liverpool in order to join Harry Redknapp's side on a two-year deal.
It is expected that he will usurp Tottenham's established number one Heurelho Gomes after the Brazilian committed a number of errors in the second half of last season.
Harry Redknapp told the club's official website: "Brad is a top goalkeeper of real quality who has great experience.
"It is good to have three such experienced top goalkeepers at the club in Gomes, Carlo [Cudicini] and now Brad and it means we have competition for places particularly with the number of games we will hopefully face next year both domestically and in Europe as well."
Confirmation of the deal means Friedel is likely to extend his Premier League record for playing consecutive games, with the tally currently standing at 275.
The American made 114 league appearances for Aston Villa across three seasons at Villa Park.
