AKP Phnom Penh, June 4, 2011 –Concerning about the hardship faced by the venders whose Kratie market was burned to the ground, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in the Council of Ministers’ weekly meeting on June 3 proposed actions to ensure space for their business.
A taskforce led by Senior Minister and Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction Minister H.E. Im Chhun Lim was assigned to assess the damages by the fire before a proper response is carried out.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister made it clear that no private company will be authorized to rebuild the market. All venders are assured with their original space in the market.
With the mobilized amount of around US$250,000 from the Council of the Ministers, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will order the re-roofing of Kratie market so that venders can resume their business.
Kratie market was completely destroyed by fire that last from late midnight of June 1 until the dawn of June 2.
