Britain's Carl Froch defends his World Boxing Council super middleweight crown against Jamaican-born Glen Johnson on Saturday with a chance at a unification showdown also at stake.
"I have a date in the final of the Super Six and I won't be overlooking Johnson in any shape or form, which will spell bad news for Glen," Froch said. "I plan on making another big statement."
Froch, 27-1 with 20 knockouts, comes off a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Germany's Arthur Abraham last November.
Froch's only loss came 14 months ago to Denmark's Mikkel Kessler, but an injury forced Kessler out of the event and he was replaced by Johnson, who booked his bout with Froch by stopping countryman Allan Green last November.
Johnson, 42, knows many count him out because of his age, with Froch nine years younger and Ward only 27. But he plans on showing that Father Time has not sapped his strength or his will.
"I know there are people still skeptical about what I can do at my age, but I actually get excited when people focus on my age," Johnson said. "That means they're not focused on my skills and what I bring to the table."
Johnson, 51-14 with two drawn and 35 knockouts, has suffered losses in his past four world title bouts over the past five years, all at light heavyeight before dropping down in weight to fight in the Super Six.
"He has a few weaknesses and I have every intention of exploiting them," said Johnson of Froch. "I really feel like I?m the favorite."
Froch called Johnson a "wise old fox" and plans on sending a message with his triumph.
"I don't just plan on beating him, but I plan on halting him in style," Froch said.
Ward, 24-0 with 13 knockouts, booked his spot in the final last month with a unanimous 12-round decision over Armenian-born Abraham in Los Angeles.
